THE WATER CYCLE

Water exists in three states: solid, water and gas (El agua existe en tres estados: sólido, líquido y gaseoso).

Water states

SOLID

The water in ice and snow is solid.

LIQUID

The water in rivers, lakes, seas, oceans and aquifers is liquid.

GAS

The water in the air is a gas called water vapour.

The water on Earth changes place and state, but there's always the same amount of water. It never disappears and there's never any new water. These changes are called the water cycle.

SPANISH: El agua de la Tierra cambia de lugar y estado, pero siempre la misma cantidad de agua. Nunca desaparece y nunca hay agua nueva. Estos cambios se llaman el ciclo del agua.

1. The Sun heats the water in rivers, lakes, seas and oceans. This water changes into water vapour and goes up into the air. This is called evaporation. (El Sol calienta el agua de los ríos, lagos, mares y océanos. Este agua se transforma en vapor y se dirige al aire. Esto se llama evaporación).
2. The air move up and cools. The water vapour changes back to water-drops and forms clouds. This is called condensation. (El aire se mueve hacia arriba se enfría. El vapor de agua vuelve a cambiar a gotas de agua y forma nubes. Esto se llama condensación).
3. Wind moves the clouds and they cool. Water-drops fall as a rain or snow. This is called precipitation. (El viento mueve las nubes y se enfrían. Las gotas de agua caen como lluvia o nieve. Esto se llama precipitación).
4. The water returns to the rivers, lakes, seas and oceans. This is called collection. Then the cycle starts again. (El agua vuelve a los ríos, lagos, mares y océanos. Esto se llama retorno. Entonces el ciclo vuelve a empezar).
