The coast is where the land meets the sea.
• Cliffs are high rocks next to the sea.
• Flat coasts are where the land is almost the same elevation as the sea. There are usually beaches on flat coasts.

There are different ways to classify the bodies of water at the coast.
• Gulfs are large bodies of water that are partially surrounded by land.
• Bays are medium-sized bodies of water that are partially surrounded by land.
• Coves are small bodies of water that are partially surrounded by land.
• Straits are narrow bodies of water; they connect larger bodies of water.
What are coastal landforms?
• Capes are narrow areas of land that stick out into the sea.
• Peninsulas are land surrounded by sea on three sides.
• Islands are land that is surrounded by water.
• Archipelagos are groups of islands that are all close together.
