FORCES

Every time we push a trolley or pull on our school bag to lift ir, we are applying a force.

Forces exert a push or a pull on an object.

SPANISH: Cada vez que empujamos un carrito o tiramos de nuestra mochila para levantarla, estamos aplicando una fuerza. Las fuerzas ejercen un empuje o un tirón sobre un objeto.

The effects of forces/Los efectos de las fuerzas.

Forces have different effects on objects:

SPANISH: Las fuerzas tienen diferentes efectos sobre los objetos.

They can make objects change their shape.

SPANISH: Hacen que los objetos cambien su forma.

They can make objects break.

SPANISH: Pueden romper objetos.

They can make objects start moving.

SPANISH: Pueden hacer que los objetos empiecen a moverse.

They can make objects stop moving.

SPANISH: Pueden hacer que los objetos se paren.

How forces act/Cómo actúan las fuerzas.

Normally, forces act when two objects come into contact. For example, to move a ball, we must kick it.

SPANISH: Normalmente las fuerzas actúan cuando dos objetos entran en contacto. Por ejemplo, para mover un balón, debemos patearlo.

Sometimes forces act when there is no contact between objects. This happens with magneitc force.

SPANISH: Algunas veces, las fuerzas actúan cuando no hay contacto entre objetos. Esto ocurre con la fuerza magnética.

Gravity/Gravedad

Gravity is the force which attracts all objects towards the centro of the Earth. Gravity pulls objects downwards. Like a magnetic force, gravity acts from a distance.

SPANISH: La gravedad es la fuerza que atrae objetos hacia el centro de la Tierra. La gravedad empuja a los objetos hacia abajo. Como una fuerza magnética, la gravedad actúa desde la distancia.

Gravity also attracts the Moon and makes it orbit around the Earth.

SPANISH: La gravedad también atrae la Luna y hace que de vueltas alrededor de la Tierra.

WHERE PEOPLE WORK

There are three main sectors of the economy: the primary sector, the secondary sector and the tertiary sector.

SPANISH: Hay tres principales sectores de producción: el sector primario, el sector secundario y el sector terciario.

Jobs in the primary sector/ Trabajos del sector primario.

In the primary sector, workers obtain raw materials from natural resources, for example, products from plants, animals an the soil.

SPANISH: En el sector primario, los trabajadores obtienen materias primas de los recursos naturales como por ejemplo, productos de las plantas, animales y la tierra.

In Spain, not many people works in the primary sector, only 4 out 100 people.

SPANISH: En España no trabaja mucha gente en el sector primario. Solo cuatro de cada 100 personas.

The primary sector includes jobs in crop farming, animal farming, fishing and mining.

SPANISH: El sector primario incluye trabajos como agricultor, ganadero, pescador o minero.

Crop farming/agricultura

Crop farming grow crops, vegetables and fruit.

SPANISH: La agricultura crece los cultivos, verduras y frutas.

Livestock farming/ganadería

Livestock farmers keep animals to produce products like meat, eggs, milk and leather.

SPANISH: Los ganaderos cuidan animales para producir productos como la lecha, la carne, los huevos o el cuero.

Fishing/Pesca

Fishermen catch fish and shellfish.

SPANISH: los pescadores atrapan peces y mariscos.

Mining/Minería

Miners mine rocks, minerals and metals that are used in industry.

SPANISH: los mineros consiguen rocas, minerales y metales que son utilizados en la industria.

JOBS IN THE SECONDARY SECTOR/TRABAJOS DEL SECTOR SECUNDARIO

The secondary sector transform raw materials into manufactured products, industries in the secondary sector include factory work, the construcction industry and craft industries. In Spain 22 out 100 people.

SPANISH: El sector secundario transforma materias primas en productos elaborados. Las industrias en el sector secundario incluye fábricas, industrias y talleres de artesanía. En España 22 personas de 100 se dedican a trabajos de este tipo.

JOBS IN THE TERTIARY SECTOR/TRABAJOS EN EL SECTOR TERCIARIO.

The tertiary sector is also called the service sector. Workers in this sector provide us with trade, health, education and transport.

SPANISH: El sector terciario es también llamado el sector servicios. Los trabajadores de este sector nos proporcionan comercios, sanidad, educación y transporte.

In Spain, 74 out 100 people work in this sector.

SPANISH: En España, 74 personas de cada 100 trabajan en este sector.

Trade/Comercio

Trade is the buying and selling of products, for example, when shopkeepers sell products to customers.

SPANISH: El comercio consiste en comprar y vender productos, por ejemplo, cuando los tenderos venden productos a los clientes.

Domestic trade: (Comercio interior). means buying and selling products wihtin a country. It includes products we buy in shops and supermarkets.

SPANISH: El comercio interior consiste en comprar y vender productos dentro del país. Esto incluye los productos que compramos en tiendas y supermercados.

Foreign trade (Comercio exterior). means buying and selling products to and from other countries.

SPANISH: El comercio exterior consiste en comprar y vender productos a otros países.

Other services/Otros servicios.

Transport and tourism are important services in Spain and the European Union.

SPANISH: El transporte y el turismo son servicios importantes en España y en la Unión Europea.

THE DISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION

People move to different places

People are born in one place, but some move to live somewhere else.

SPANISH: Las personas crecen en un lugar, pero algunas se mueven para vivir en otro lugar.

There are many different reasons for this:

SPANISH: Hay muchas razones diferentes para esto:

People move away to study in a different place.

SPANISH: Las personas van a estudiar a un lugar diferente.

People find work in a different place.

SPANISH: Las personas encuentran trabajo en otro lugar.

People move because of drought of famine in their country.

SPANISH: Las personas se mueven debido a la sequía o las hambrunas de su país.

People move because of war in their country.

SPANISH: Las personas se mueven debido a la guerra en su país.

Population density/Densidad de la población

Some places have many inhabitants. Other places have a few inhabitants. Population density tells us if a place has a large or small population.

SPANISH: Algunos lugares tienen muchos habitantes. Otros lugares tienen pocos habitantes. La densidad de la población nos indica si un lugar si un lugar tienen una población grande o pequeña.

If lots of people live in a small area, then the area is densely populated.

SPANISH: Si mucha gente vive en una zona pequeña entonces el área está densamente poblada.

If few people live in a large area, then the area is sparsely populated.

SPANISH: Si pocas personas viven en una zona grande, entonces la zona está escasamente poblada.

Where people live in Spain/Dónde la gente vive en España

Spain has a population of about 46.5 million people.

SPANISH: España tiene una población de alrededor de 46.5 millones de personas.

Most of the people live on the coast and the big cities where there are many jobs. These places are densely populated.

SPANISH: La mayoría de las personas viven en la costa y en las grandes ciudades dónde hay muchos trabajos. Estos lugares están densamente poblados.

Fewer people live inland, except in the big cities like Madrid and Zaragoza. In general, inland Spain is generaly sparsely populated.
