The manufacturing industry and the tourism

  How are products manufactured in factories?

Most industrial work happens in factories. Raw materials are turned into manufactured products. Factory workers use many different types of machinery . Each worker has a specific task. Together the workers form a production line to make the product. There are several industrial sectors like:

• The motor industry. 

• The construction industry.

• The textile industry. 

• The food industry.


Tourism

People who travel to another place for their holidays are tourists. In Spain, the most common types of tourism are:

• Beach tourism. 

• Cultural tourism. 

• Rural tourism. 

• Winter tourism.

Many different services form part of the tourism industry.

Transport and trade

 How are the different types of transport used?


We use different types of vehicles to transport people, animals and products. 

• Freight vehicles transport manufactured products and animals. 

 • Passenger vehicles transport people. Some vehicles are for individual use or for a few people, like cars or taxis. 



Other vehicles are for many people, like trains and buses. Most collective vehicles are for public transport.



What is trade?


Trade is buying or selling products. The people who buy are the consumers. The people who sell are the suppliers. Domestic trade happens in your own country. International trade is trade with other countries. Imports are the products or raw materials we buy from other countries. Products and raw materials we sell to other countries are called exports.


What are outlets?

Products and raw materials are sold in different outlets. 

 • Small shops often specialize in only one product. 

 • Markets have many different stalls selling a variety of products, often food. they can be indoors or on a street. 


• Shopping centres have many shops. 

 • Warehouses are large spaces where suppliers buy products for their shops. Many outlets also sell products online.

Raw materials and manufactured products

 What are raw materials and manufactured products?




Raw materials are products we get from nature. Raw materials: 

• come from inside the Earth. 

• come from rivers and seas.

 • come from animals. 

• come from plants. 

We use raw materials to make manufactured products. 

1 Wood is used to make paper. 



2 Iron is used to make railway tracks.

 3 Cotton is used to make clothes.





How are crafts made?


Crafts are a type of manufactured product. They are made by hand with simple tools. Crafts are often made individually in a workshop. 

• Potters use clay to make ceramics. 

• Jewellers use precious metals like gold and silver to make jewellery. 

• Basket makers use grasses and vegetable fibres to make baskets. 


• Leather workers use leather from animal skins to make shoes and bags. 

• Carpenters use wood to make furniture.
