LAS COMUNIDADES AUTÓNOMAS/AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES
The largest administrative division in Spain is the autonomous community.
SPANISH: La más grande división administrativa en España es la Comunidad Autónoma.
There are seventeen autonomous communities. Fifteen are on the Iberian Peninsula. The other two are the archipelagos of the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. Spain has two autonomous cities on the coast of North Africa: Ceuta and Melilla.
SPANISH: Hay 17 comunidades autónomas. Quince están en la Península Ibérica. Las otras dos son los archipiélados de las Islas Baleares y las Islas Canarias. España tiene dos ciudades autónomas en la costa del Norte de África: Ceuta y Melilla.
Each autonomous community has its own history and traditios, in some cases, its own language.

Each community has a capital and a statute of autonomy, which includes its main institutions:
