THE HYDROSPHERE
When the first astronauts went into space they saw the Earth was blue. This is because three quarters of the surface is covered with water from the oceans.
SPANISH: Cuando los primeros astronautas fueron al espacio vieron que la Tierra era azul. Esto se debe a que tres cuartos de la superficie del planeta está cubierta con agua del océano.
The hydrosphere is one of the layers of the Earth. It is made up of all water on Earth.
SPANISH: La hidrosfera es una de las capas de la tierra. Está hecha de todo el agua de la Tierra.
Salt water (Agua salada)
Most of the water of the hydrosphere is salt water. 97 % is water from the seas and oceans.
SPANISH: La myor parte de la hidrosfera es agua salada. El 97% del agua procede de los mares y océanos.

Fresh water (Agua dulce)
Fresh water comes from rivers, lakes and groundwater. Althoug most of the fresh water on Earth is ice from glaciers, snow on the mountains and from the poles. Only 3% of all the water on Earth is fresh water, the water we can drink.
SPANISH: El agua dulce procede de los ríos, lagos y agua subterránea. Aunque la mayoría del agua dulce de la Tierra procede del hielo de los glaciares, la nieve de las montañas o los polos. Solamente el 3% del agua de la Tierra es agua dulce, el agua que podemos beber.

THE WATER CYCLE (EL CICLO DEL AGUA)
Water is always moving around the Earth. We call this movement the water cycle. The water cycle takes place between the atmosphere and the Earth's crust.
SPANISH: El agua siempre está en movimiento alrededor de la Tierra. Nosotros llamamos a este movimiento el ciclo del agua. Tiene lugar entre la atmósfera y la corteza terrestre.
1. Evaporation. Evaporación.
The Sun heats liquid water. It evaporates to form water vapour in the air. SPANISH: El sol calienta el agua líquida. Se evapora para formar vapor de agua en el aire.
2. Condensation. Condensación.
The water vapour passes into the cold air in the troposphere. Here, it condenses into tiny water droplets and forms clouds.
SPANISH: El vapor de agua pasa al aire frío en la troposfera. Ahí, se condensa en pequeñas gotitas de agua y forma nubes.
3. Precipitation. Precipitación.
The tiny water droplets form larger heavier drops. These droplets fall from clouds as rain or snow onto the Earht's crust.
SPANISH: Las pequeñas gotitas de agua forman gotas más pesadas. Estas gotas caen de las nubes en forma de lluvia o nieve a la corteza terrestre.
4. Collection. Retorno.
Water in the rivers goes into the seas and oceans. The cycle starts again.
SPANISH: El agua de los ríos va al mar y al océano. El ciclo se repite de nuevo.
