NUTRITION

Some people think that nutrition and eating food are the same process, but nutrition is much more.

Eating food is something that you do several times a day. Nutrition is a constant process that takes place inside your body.

SPANISH: Algunas personas piensas que la nutrición y comer comida son el mismo proceso, pero la nutrición es mucho más. Comer comida es algo que tú haces varias veces en un día. La nutrición es un proceso constante que tiene lugar dentro de tu cuerpo.

The process of nutrition

Nutrition is the process which provides your body with all the nutrients and energy that are necessary for life.

SPANISH: la nutrición es el proceso que proporciona a tu cuerpo todos los nutrientes y la energía necesaria para vivir.

• You need energy to do all kinds of activities, such as walking, playing and thinking. (Necesitas energía para realizar muchas actividades como caminar, jugar y pensar).
• Your body need nutrients to grow and to function properly. (tu cuerpo necesita nutrientes para crecer y funcionar adecuadamente).

Systems involved in nutrition

The different processes of nutrition take place in different parts of the body, called systems.

SPANISH: los diferentes procesos de la nutrición tienen lugar en diferentes partes de nuestro cuerpo, llamadas aparatos.

The digestive System (aparato digestivo)

This absorbs nutrients. The main organs are the stomach and the intestines.

Absorbe nutrientes. Los principales órganos son el estómago y los intestinos.

The respiratory system (aparato respiratorio)

We breathe in air. The main organs in this sytem are the lungs.

Respiramos aire. Los principales órganos de este aparato son los pulmones.

The circulatory system (aparato circulatorio)

This system moves blood around your body. The main organ is the heart.

Este aparato mueve sangre por tu cuerpo. El órgano principal es el corazón.

The excretory system (aparato excretor)

This system expels waste from the body. The main organs are the kidneys.

Este aparato expulsa las sustancias de desecho del cuerpo. El órgano principal son los riñones.
