The hydrosphere is all of the water on the Earth. We can find water in three possible states: SPANISH: La hidrosfera es toda el agua de la Tierra. Podemos encontrar agua en tres estados posibles.
• liquid water. SPANISH: Agua líquida.

• groundwater, which filters down through the Earth’s surface and collects

Why is the hydrosphere important?
Life on Earth is possible because there is liquid water. SPANISH: La vida en la Tierra es posible gracias a que hay agua líquida.

• All living organisms need water to live. SPANISH: Todos los organismos necesitan agua para vivir.
• The hydrosphere regulates the Earth’s temperature. It absorbs some of the Sun’s heat. SPANISH: La hidrosfera regula la temperatura de la Tierra. Absorbe parte del calor del Sol.
• Water is a habitat for many different aquatic organisms. SPANISH: El agua es un hábitat para muchos organismos acuáticos.
• People use water for recreation and industry. It is also essential for our health. SPANISH: Las personas usan el agua para divertirse y para la industria. Es algo esencial para nuestra salud.
WATER CYCLE
The amount of water on Earth never changes. Water moves continuously through the hydrosphere. SPANISH: La cantidad de agua de la Tierra nunca cambia. El agua se mueve constantemente a través de la hidrosfera.
1 Precipitation from clouds falls onto the Earth. SPANISH: Las precipitaciones de las nubes caen sobre la Tierra.
2 Rain filters through the surface of the Earth to form groundwater. SPANISH: La lluvia se filtra a través de la superficie de la Tierra para formar aguas subterráneas.
3 Snow and ice melt. The water flows into rivers or filters under the ground. SPANISH La nieve y el hielo se derrite. El agua desemboca en ríos o se filtra debajo de la tierra.
4 Rivers carry fresh water into the sea. SPANISH: Los ríos llevan agua dulce al mar.
How does the water cycle work?
The water cycle explains how water moves through the atmosphere and hydrosphere. SPANISH: El ciclo del agua explica cómo el agua se mueve a través de la atmósfera y la hidrosfera.
1 The Sun heats surface water. Some water evaporates and turns into water vapour. Plants also release water vapour. Water vapour rises into the atmosphere. SPANISH: El sol calienta el agua superficial. Un poco de agua se evapora y se convierte en vapor de agua. Las plantas también liberan vapor de agua. El vapor de agua sube a la atmósfera.

2 The air temperature gets cooler. Water vapour condenses into small
droplets of water. The droplets form clouds. SPANISH: La temperatura del aire se enfría. El vapor de agua se condensa en pequeñas gotas de agua. Las gotitas forman nubes.

3 Precipitation falls as rain, snow or hail. SPANISH: Las precipitaciones caen en forma de lluvia, nieve o granizo.

4 The precipitation collects in rivers or filters underground. The water in
rivers and under the ground flows towards the sea. SPANISH: La precipitación se acumula en los ríos o se filtra bajo tierra. El agua de los ríos y del subsuelo fluye hacia el mar.
