THE ATMOSPHERE

The atmosphere is around the Earth. It's like an invisible blanket! The atmosphere makes life on Earth possible. It contains the gases living things need to survive.

SPANISH: La atmósfera se encuentra alrededor de la Tierra. ¡Es como una manta invisible! La atmósfera hace que la vida en la Tierra sea posible. Contiene gases que los seres vivos necesitan para sobrevivir.

The atmosphere also protects the Earth from extreme temperatures. During the day it's not too hot because the atmosphere filters the Sun's rays. At night it's not too cold because the atmosphere stop heat from scaping.

SPANISH: La atmósfera también protege la Tierra de temperaturas extremas. Durante el día no hace demasiado calor debido a que la atmósfera filtra los rayos del Sol. Por la noche no hace tanto frío debdo a que la atmósfera impide que el calor escape.

The atmosphere has three main layers: troposphere, stratosphere and ionosphere.

SPANISH: la atmósfera tiene tres capas principalmente: la troposfera, la estratosfera y la ionosfera.

TROPOSPHERE/TROPOSFERA

The troposphere is just above the Earth's surface. The weather occurs there.

SPANISH: La troposfera se encuentra justo encima de la superficie de la Tierra. El tiempo atmosférico ocurre aquí.

STRATOSPHERE/ESTRATOSFERA

The stratosphere contains the ozone layer, which protects us from the Sun's rays. Jet planes fly there too.

SPANISH: la estratosfera contiene la capa de ozono, la cual nos protege de los rayos del Sol. Los aviones a reacción vuelan en esta capa.

IONOSPHERE/IONOSFERA

The ionosphere has very little air. Satellites and spacecraft move around there.

SPANISH: la ionosfera tiene muy poco aire. Los satélites y las naves espaciales se mueven aquí.
