VERTEBRATE GROUPS.

We can classify vertebrates into five groups: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Animals in each group have common characteristics.

SPANISH: Clasificamos los vertebrados en cinco grupos: peces, anfibios, reptiles, aves y mamíferos. Cada uno de ellos presenta una serie de características comunes.

MAMMALS (MAMÍFEROS)

Mammals have hair or fur. They breathe with lungs and they usually have four legs. Mammals feed their babies with milk. Most mammals live on land. Some mammal live in water, for example dolphins.

SPANISH: Los mamíferos tienen pelo o pelaje. Respiran con pulmones y normalmente tienen cuatro patas. Alimentan a sus crías con leche. La mayoría de ellos viven en tierra. Algunos viven en el agua, como por ejemplo los delfines.

AMPHIBIANS (ANFIBIOS)

Amphibians have moist skin. When they're youngs they breathe with gills, but later they develop lungs. They can live on land or in water. Adult amphibians have four legs.

SPANISH: Los anfibios tienen la piel húmeda. Cuando son jóvenes respiran con branquias, pero más tarde ellos desarrollan pulmones. Pueden vivir en tierra y en agua. Los anfibios adultos tienen cuatro patas.

FISH (PECES)

Fish live in water. They have scales and use fins to swim. They breathe with gills.

SPANISH: Los peces viven en el agua. Tienen escamas y usan aletas para nadar. Respiran con branquias.

BIRDS(AVES)

Birds have two wings and are covered with feathers. They breathe with lungs. They have two legs. Most birds can fly, but penguins can't!

SPANISH: Los pájaros tienen dos alas y están cubiertos de plumas. Respiran con pulmones. Tienen dos patas. La mayoría de los pájaros vuelan, pero los pingüinos, por ejemplo, no vuelan.

REPTILES (REPTILES)

Reptiles have dry, scaly skin. They breathe with lungs. They live on land. Some reptiles have four legs, but some have no legs!

SPANISH: los reptiles tienen la piel seca y escamosa. Respiran con pulmones. Viven en tierra. Algunos reptiles tienen cuatro patas, otros no tienen patas (la serpiente por ejemplo).
